Complex PTSD
Therapy in Miami
Overview
For Miami adults whose trauma was ongoing, whose life looks impressive, and whose body has never stood down.
— The Short Answer
Complex PTSD develops after prolonged, repeated trauma — most often inside relationships you could not leave. On top of the intrusion, avoidance, and hypervigilance of PTSD, it adds emotional dysregulation, a persistently negative sense of self, and chronic difficulty feeling safe with other people. The World Health Organization recognizes it as its own diagnosis in ICD-11.
The Approach
In Miami it very often arrives disguised as competence. Clients are running companies, practices, and firms while sleeping badly, moving between overdrive and numbness, and privately certain that something is wrong with them. Years of talk therapy have usually produced excellent insight and very little change, because the pattern is stored in the nervous system rather than in the argument.
Treatment here is sequenced rather than improvised. Somatic work first, so reprocessing does not flood or shut you down. Ego state therapy for the protective parts — including the achiever whose worth depends on never stopping. The Flash Technique when a memory is too hot to approach directly. Then EMDR on representative memories from each cluster, which generalizes rather than marching through every incident.
Clients come from Brickell, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, Miami Beach, Pinecrest, Doral, and Aventura, with sessions by secure video throughout Florida. Annie is EMDRIA-trained, a member of EMDRIA and ISSTD, and currently completing advanced EMDR training in CPTSD and attachment trauma. Private pay and LGBTQ+ affirming.
— What Changes
What CPTSD Treatment Addresses
Overdrive and Shutdown
The two speeds many high achievers live between. Somatic work rebuilds the range in the middle before any reprocessing starts.
The Belief Underneath
Not enough, too much, fundamentally defective. EMDR shifts these at the level where they were installed rather than by argument.
Relationships That Run on Survival
Over-functioning, fawning, bracing for abandonment. Treated as attachment injury, not a character defect.
Achievement as Armor
When slowing down feels dangerous. Approached through ego state work with the part doing the driving.
Dissociation
Lost time, unreality, going blank mid-conversation. Stabilized first, using ego state and hypnosis-informed methods.
The Body's Bill
Insomnia, migraines, chronic pain, and gut-brain symptoms — common in complex trauma and addressed directly, not sidelined.

About Complex PTSD Therapy in Miami
01Is there a complex PTSD therapist in Miami?+
Yes. The MindShift Studio specializes in complex trauma for adults across Miami-Dade, combining EMDR, the Flash Technique, ego state therapy, clinical hypnosis, and somatic work. Sessions are delivered by secure video throughout Florida, so any Miami neighborhood is served.
02How is CPTSD treated differently from PTSD?+
Single-incident PTSD often resolves by reprocessing one memory. Complex PTSD has no single target — there are clusters of similar memories plus the adaptations built around them. Treatment therefore begins with stabilization and parts work, and reprocessing targets representative memories from each cluster.
03How long does complex trauma therapy take?+
Most complex trauma work runs six months to two years of weekly sessions. Meaningful relief usually arrives much earlier, often within the first two to three months, as emotional regulation improves ahead of the deeper reprocessing.
04Can I do this while running a demanding career?+
Yes, and most clients here do. Pacing, closure at the end of every session, and low-distress methods like Flash are used specifically so treatment stays compatible with a working week.
05Do you take insurance?+
No. The practice is private pay: $200 for a 50-minute session and $325 for an extended 90-minute session, with a superbill available for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
06How do I start?+
Book a free 15-minute consultation. It covers what you are dealing with, how treatment would be sequenced for you, and whether this practice is the right fit — with no intake paperwork required first.
